Palestinian activists start series of civil disobedience protests

[ssba]

Police yesterday evening arrested six Palestinian activists who tried to ride an Egged bus into Jerusalem, in an effort to highlight their inability to travel freely on state-run buses in the West Bank. According to the organisers, the protest was the first in a series of planned civil disobedience acts that are being arranged to highlight restrictions in the West Bank. Palestinians are free to travel on buses in the West Bank, but have to obtain a permit to travel into areas of Israel within the pre-1967 border.

IDF soldiers and police boarded the bus and requested for the Palestinian activists to disembark. The activists refused and the police proceeded to arrest them. A large contingent of journalists and reporters followed the group and interviewed the activists, as the protest was being carried out.
