Woman wounded in rocket attack from Gaza, IDF responds

[ssba]

A 55-year-old Bedouin woman, Fatma Saria was wounded yesterday when a Kassam rocket launched from Gaza landed in the Hof Ashkelon area on Israel’s southern coast. Fatma Saria was hit by shrapnel and was treated at the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon. Kassam rocket attacks have increased in recent months, but this was the first time that an individual has been wounded in the recent spate of attacks. A ‘color red’ alert was sounded in the area prior to the attack but Saria and her family remained near their tent. The rocket exploded close by.

In response to the attack, Israel Air Force jets struck at Gaza targets overnight. A statement from the IDF Spokesmans’ Unit said that a terrorist-related target in the northern part of Gaza, and a smuggling tunnel in the south were destroyed in the raid. No injuries were reported following the IAF strikes.
