The unrest in Egypt continues to dominate Israel-related coverage in the UK media. The Guardian, Financial Times, Scotsman, Reuters and BBC Online have coverage of the latest events. The Guardian, Independent, Financial Times and Reuters note a French expression of support for the establishment of a protection zone in Syria. The Guardian also notes Iranian approval of a bill for the downgrading of its diplomatic relations with the UK. The Times reports on a far right group in Jerusalem which seeks to discourage Jews from making purchases from businesses which employ non-Jews. The Scotsman has an additional piece on a new discovery suggesting that the Western Wall in Jerusalem was not built by King Herod. The Daily Express runs a piece suggesting that the Arab Spring in truth represents the victory of militant Islam.

The print edition of Israel Hayom leads with the role of the Muslim Brotherhood in the protests in Egypt. The Jerusalem Post also leads with the Egyptian protests and notes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement yesterday that the regional situation precludes a rushed diplomatic process. Haaretz leads with a piece on a bill seeking to limit the right to petition the High Court in Israel.

In the Israeli media, all papers note an incident on the Egypt-Israel border last night in which two Egyptian policemen were killed by smugglers. Haaretz notes a statement by PM Netanyahu that the Arab world is currently moving backward, not forward, and the paper has an additional piece on a bill designed to limit the freedom to petition Israel’s High Court. The Jerusalem Post notes low expectations in the build up to the meeting between Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas political leader Khaled Mashal, scheduled to take place in Cairo today. Ynetnews and Israel Hayom note the explosion at a Hezbollah arms facility in southern Lebanon. Ynetnews reports Israeli Opposition leader Tzipi Livni’s harsh criticism of the governing coalition for legislation, which according to Livni, is stifling democracy in Israel. Maariv has a piece claiming to locate the reason for the flurry of rightist bills in the Knesset to a right wing activist organisation which assesses MK’s achievements in furthering right wing causes.
