The Knesset formally voted to dissolve itself early Friday morning.
- Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana concluded the session: “The time is 5:18 am, July 17, 2026. The next meeting will be held some two weeks after the election. This meeting, this session of the 25th Knesset is concluded.”
- Earlier Ohana had expressed hope that “we will return here soon and remember that, despite all our disagreements, we are not enemies, but partners, even if political rivals, and that we are all part of one people and one country,”
- The dissolution of the Knesset was approved as part of the Party Funding Law. Sixty-two MKs from the coalition voted in favour, while the opposition did not vote against it.
- The coalition-sponsored legislative procedure continued during the night where they passed a variety of laws including:
- Splitting the powers of the attorney general. From January 2027, ministers will be permitted to reject guidance from the attorney general which is currently legally binding.
- Freezing the arrests of ultra-Orthodox draft dodgers. Though this law was immediately frozen by the High Court of Justice, pending a hearing.
- An amendment to the Defence Service Law stating that compulsory service in the IDF will be extended two months and now last 32 months.
- The communications law that significantly expanding government oversight of media outlets.
- More of these laws are expected to be challenged in the High Court.
